The Hazmat Fusion Center has been built from the bottom-up with input from the hazmat community. In the fall of 2008, five Focus Groups have been conducted around the country to provide a direction for the Hazmat Fusion Center.

Providing the response community with networking opportunities is an integral part of the Hazmat Fusion Center. On July 28, 2009 the Hazmat Fusion Center held an Eastern Symposium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, followed by the Western Symposium held in Denver, Colorado on November 4, 2009.
